Every term the Institute’s archivists bring you a new display in the Bedford Way foyer. The displays are usually based on one of our 120 archive collections. This term we are focussing on the Photographic Archive of the Architects and Buildings Branch, which is the largest collection of photographs held by the Institute of Education Archive (some 80 boxes). The A&B Branch operated under the Ministry of Education from 1949 onwards and brought together the relevant personnel for researching and producing the built environment for education on a nationwide scale. The archive collection comprises photographs and slides depicting a range of features related to school life from 1940s-1990s, most notably school buildings. This particular exhibition relates to the use of outdoor spaces for teaching and learning. Details of all of our archive collections may be found on the Archive catalogue
