Amber Films

Last week a major British social documentary co-operative had its work added to the UNESCO UK Memory of the World Register.

The UNESCO UK Memory of the World Register is an online catalogue created to help promote the UK’s documentary heritage across the UK and the world. The register is part of a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization programme to support and raise awareness of archives.

The inscription in the register recognises the photographs of Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen and Amber Films as an archive of national cultural significance. Using our current subscription to Film & Sound Online, which runs until this summer, it is possible to view and download a large number of the Amber documentaries.

More information about the available titles and background information about Amber is available on the F&SO website.
