August saw the disappearance of our access to EIG and F&SO as they became part of the new JISC MediaHub. This service has launched as part of a bigger JISC e-collections subscription package which rolls in extra material including journal archives and digitised books from the 19th century and earlier.
Since the bigger package comes with a much increased price tag we’ve had to re-think our links to online audiovisual content. The good news is that access to NewsFilm Online continues until July 2012, and can still be accessed either directly or through JISC MediaHub. The other useful feature of the new hub service is the addition of freely available content hosted outside, but still from ‘recommended’ providers. This material (video, image and audio) is identified by an unlocked padlock symbol.
We’re working to identify further resources over the next few months, so keep an eye on the content links on the audiovisual section of the ‘Teaching Resources’ web page. If you use media resources in teaching it’s also worth taking a look at the new British Universities Film & Video Council federated search system which provides a one-stop destination for information and resources held in their nine databases.
