Library awarded JISC funding: Preserving Official Publications in Education (POPE)

Great news! The library has been awarded JISC funding under Strand B2 of the Digital Infrastructure Portfolio call. It is for a four month project to preserve UK education Official Publications which are currently linked to via the library catalogue and are gradually disappearing from the Web. We have identified 5,000 core publications, from 1990 – 2009, which are at significant risk of loss from link-rot and these will now be retrieved and preserved in our DERA EPrints repository.

The project will demonstrate that by uploading existing metadata from a library catalogue, it is possible to conduct this
activity in a practical and fairly low cost manner, whilst adhering to good preservation practice. It will be a case study
reusable by other subject domains who have similar problems to our own. The projet starts in November. A website will be launched shortly so watch this space!
